N-Pulses
is a new installation of work by artist Paul Deslandes. The body of work originated at its from the artist’s keen interest in neurosciences and histology. Their study and by extrapolation the study of the mind is at the core of some of the most crucial scientific discoveries of the past decades and thus nevermore relevant. For the artist it also shows the constant progress made in the biomedical field bringing to the light the thirst of knowledge that is intrinsic to our very own nature. Drawing on this, the work reflects on the notion of stimulus as an electrical impulse, and its reaction, to question the core of the artist’s practice and his own understanding of visual arts. Audio and visual stimuli are combined in an attempt to engage rather than interfere with the gallery space. The concept of space is at the heart of this installation: an entity apart that necessitates the use of all of our senses to be fully measured and felt.
